La Liga Over 2.5 Goals by Club: Highest and Lowest Scoring Teams
Five seasons of La Liga matches, ranked by total goals. Barcelona and Almería sit at the top, Getafe and Cádiz at the bottom, and the prices show how much of that the market already knows.
Correct Score & Over/Under 2.5 Goals specialistReviewed by Marcus Whitfield, Editor-in-Chief6 min read
When a La Liga game lands on my desk, the first thing I ask is whether either club pulls the total away from the league norm. Across 1,900 matches from 2021/22–2025/26 the league averaged 2.59 goals, and 47.4% of games went over 2.5. That is close to a coin flip with a slight lean towards the under, so any club that moves the needle is worth knowing.
The headline answer is clear. Barcelona matches average 3.11 goals and Getafe matches just 2.06, and the rest of the league spreads out between them. Much of the reasoning on my under 2.5 goals tips page starts with this kind of club profile. The catch is that the market prices most of it, and only a few clubs have shown a positive flat-stake return on either side.
Section ABarcelona, Levante and Almería lead La Liga's highest-scoring matches
Barcelona top the table at 3.11 goals per match, with 62.1% of their 190 games going over 2.5. That gives fair odds of 1.61, and the 95% range of 55.2–69.0% sits clear of the league rate, so I treat this as a genuine trait rather than noise.
Levante and Almería follow at 3.09 and 3.05, but they only have 76 matches each, and their ranges are wide. Levante are the interesting one: a high average but an over 2.5 rate of only 51.3%. That suggests a few heavy scorelines inflating the mean rather than steady goals every week, a pattern the next charts bear out.
| Club | Matches | Avg goals | Over 2.5 | 95% range | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barcelona | 190 | 3.11 | 62.1% | 55.2–69.0% | 1.61 |
| Levante | 76 | 3.09 | 51.3% | 40.1–62.5% | 1.95 |
| Almería | 76 | 3.05 | 63.2% | 52.4–74.0% | 1.58 |
| Villarreal | 190 | 2.99 | 56.8% | 49.8–63.8% | 1.76 |
| Real Madrid | 190 | 2.96 | 56.8% | 49.8–63.8% | 1.76 |
| Granada | 76 | 2.92 | 46.1% | 34.9–57.3% | 2.17 |
| Girona | 152 | 2.91 | 55.3% | 47.4–63.2% | 1.81 |
| Valladolid | 76 | 2.79 | 59.2% | 48.2–70.2% | 1.69 |
| Atlético Madrid | 190 | 2.78 | 52.1% | 45.0–59.2% | 1.92 |
| Espanyol | 152 | 2.65 | 50.0% | 42.1–57.9% | 2.00 |
| Celta Vigo | 190 | 2.64 | 49.5% | 42.4–56.6% | 2.02 |
| Real Betis | 190 | 2.61 | 49.5% | 42.4–56.6% | 2.02 |
Villarreal and Real Madrid are effectively twins here, both at 56.8% over 2.5 with fair odds of 1.76. Atlético Madrid, often thought of as a low-event side, still come in at 2.78 goals and 52.1%, which is above the league rate.
Section BGetafe and Cádiz sit at the bottom of La Liga scoring
At the other end, Getafe average 2.06 goals and went over 2.5 in only 34.2% of 190 matches, which means fair odds on the over of 2.92. Cádiz are even less likely to clear the line at 30.7% across 114 matches, with fair odds of 3.26 on the over.
Rayo Vallecano are a useful warning about reading the average alone. They rank third-lowest at 2.29 goals, yet 43.2% of their games went over 2.5, not far below the league figure. Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao sit side by side at 41.1%, which fits the cagey reputation of their matches.
| Club | Matches | Avg goals | Over 2.5 | 95% range | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elche | 114 | 2.59 | 52.6% | 43.4–61.8% | 1.90 |
| Sevilla | 190 | 2.57 | 44.7% | 37.6–51.8% | 2.24 |
| Valencia | 190 | 2.48 | 44.7% | 37.6–51.8% | 2.24 |
| Osasuna | 190 | 2.43 | 42.1% | 35.1–49.1% | 2.38 |
| Alavés | 152 | 2.39 | 41.4% | 33.6–49.2% | 2.41 |
| Real Sociedad | 190 | 2.39 | 41.1% | 34.1–48.1% | 2.44 |
| Las Palmas | 76 | 2.38 | 39.5% | 28.5–50.5% | 2.53 |
| Athletic Bilbao | 190 | 2.37 | 41.1% | 34.1–48.1% | 2.44 |
| Mallorca | 190 | 2.31 | 42.1% | 35.1–49.1% | 2.38 |
| Rayo Vallecano | 190 | 2.29 | 43.2% | 36.2–50.2% | 2.32 |
| Cádiz | 114 | 2.19 | 30.7% | 22.2–39.2% | 3.26 |
| Getafe | 190 | 2.06 | 34.2% | 27.5–40.9% | 2.92 |
For correct score work, this bottom group is where I look first at 1-0, 0-0 and 1-1. A low average narrows the likely scorelines, and that matters more to me than the over/under line itself.
Section CBarcelona's four-goal games against Getafe's low-event La Liga matches
This chart breaks matches into goal bands, and the shapes say more than the averages. Barcelona games finished with 4+ goals 37.9% of the time and with exactly two only 13.2%, so their matches tend to be either quiet or open, rarely in between. Getafe are the mirror image, with 39.5% of matches producing 0–1 goals and only 13.7% reaching four or more.
Levante show why their over rate lags their average: a big share of their games end with exactly two goals, yet 35.5% reach 4+. Mallorca have 35.8% of matches at 0–1 goals and 17.4% at 4+, against a league average of 27.5% and 25.0%. Cádiz carry the largest share of two-goal games of the eight clubs shown.
View the data: how many goals: top four vs bottom four
| 0–1 | 2 | 3 | 4+ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barcelona | 24.7% | 13.2% | 24.2% | 37.9% |
| Levante | 14.5% | 34.2% | 15.8% | 35.5% |
| Almería | 21.1% | 15.8% | 25.0% | 38.1% |
| Villarreal | 17.9% | 25.3% | 24.2% | 32.6% |
| Mallorca | 35.8% | 22.1% | 24.7% | 17.4% |
| Rayo Vallecano | 30.5% | 26.3% | 25.8% | 17.4% |
| Cádiz | 32.5% | 36.8% | 10.5% | 20.2% |
| Getafe | 39.5% | 26.3% | 20.5% | 13.7% |
| La Liga average | 27.5% | 25.1% | 22.4% | 25.0% |
For me, the two-goal band is the one to watch. It is where the over 2.5 bet loses narrowly, and clubs heavy in that band, like Levante and Cádiz, need careful handling.
Section DOver and under returns for Cádiz, Getafe, Barcelona and Almería
Here is the uncomfortable part. Backing over 2.5 in every Barcelona match returned −4.0% per stake, and the under returned −6.8%. Their high-scoring profile was real, but the closing prices already reflected it. Across all La Liga matches, flat overs returned −5.8% and unders −4.4%, which is roughly the cost of the bookmaker's margin.
The standouts are on the under side for the low scorers. Backing under in every Cádiz match returned +18.9%, while the over lost −33.7%. Getafe unders scraped +2.0%, and Almería overs returned 15.5%, the one strong figure on the over side.
View the data: flat-stake return: backing over or under 2.5
| Back over 2.5 | Back under 2.5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Barcelona | −4.0% | −6.8% |
| Levante | −4.7% | −8.3% |
| Almería | +15.5% | −25.4% |
| Villarreal | +1.8% | −12.6% |
| Mallorca | −5.5% | −7.0% |
| Rayo Vallecano | −8.1% | +0.3% |
| Cádiz | −33.7% | +18.9% |
| Getafe | −12.5% | +2.0% |
| All La Liga | −5.8% | −4.4% |
My main caveat: these are flat-stake returns over samples of 190 matches at most, and only 114 for Cádiz and 76 for Almería. Returns over samples that size swing a lot by chance, so a positive past figure tells me where the market may have been slow, not that an edge exists now.
Club verdict
What this file means before you bet.
- Respect Getafe's low ceiling. Getafe matches averaged 2.06 goals with only 13.7% reaching 4+, so I start correct score shortlists with low scorelines. The under returned +2.0%, which is thin, so price still decides the bet.
- Don't chase Barcelona overs blindly. Barcelona games went over 2.5 62.1% of the time, yet backing the over still returned −4.0%. The trait is real, but the market prices it, so I only act when the price drifts above the fair odds of 1.61.
- Treat small samples cautiously. The Cádiz under return of +18.9% and the Almería over return of 15.5% come from 114 and 76 matches. Club samples this small can mislead, so I use them as a prompt to check prices, not as a standing rule.
